Scripture: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature, the old things have passed away; behold, new things have come.” 2 Cor 5:17 NASB
Easter—the Sunday we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, a King who made Himself a servant of the people—of those He loved. We know that resurrection signals we also, as new spiritual creatures created in and through Jesus Christ’s sacrifice and ascension, will be lifted up into the heavenly places. This beautiful time ahead cannot be fully known by man.
In fact, when a human tries to describe the heavenly realm their mere mortality limits the things they can comprehend. The Bible tells us that God’s thoughts are higher than our thoughts. Yet we still wish to see a glimpse of what that place might be like. That’s one reason the film Heaven is for Real has created a bow wave of excitement.
What we know for sure is that heaven’s description provided in Revelation and other portions of the scripture are also seen from a human perspective. I’m sure we will all be amazed when we make the final journey.
That’s in the future. What about now? We are new creatures today, if we’re in Christ. Right now. Cleansed, cleaned, bought and paid for. We are free from the power of sin to hold us in its grip. We have power through Christ. Right this minute. We may still have to struggle along or with our human frame and its desires, but we are free. Free, indeed. Praise the Lord for his amazing sacrifice.
